Book Soup
Update from the LA Times.
I really like Book Soup, but I have a hard time actually buying any books there. As a matter of fact, the only books I’ve purchased didn’t have any writing in them – they are called moleskines. ”Rare, hard to find books” translates to “books nobody wants” to me – it’s silly that people put a value on this.
I hope Vroman’s makes it better – if they can make it anything like the Pasadena store on Colorado that would be fantastic.

The problem is that with the Internet, “hard to find books” doesn’t really hold anymore. Instead the should focus on connecting book lovers with new books they’d love — even with Amazon’s recommendations, nobody’s really cracked that nut yet, and nothing ever will really replace the experience of *talking* to someone about a book they liked (and seeing if you’d like it as well).
